Michael's art celebrates the beauty of his favourite cities through the shapes, outlines and colours that create their charcter and personality. He loves to work with unusual materials including aluminium, reclaimed wood, neon, vintage windows, magnets, even a red London phone box.
His art is created by digitally manipulating and painstakingly colouring his own photographs to produce pieces on unusual materials.
Many of his pieces are created from aerial photographs, often taken while hanging out of helicopters with the doors off. The best patterns and abstract shapes in our landscapes can be seen from the air, he thinks. The grid patterns of New York’s avenues, LA’s Hollywood Hills, the beautiful shape of the Thames winding through London, and Hong Kong’s sensational skyline have all inspired his work.
